Obituary of Janice Joy Hockman

Janice (Jan) Hockman, 71, longtime resident of Two Harbors, MN passed away peacefully on January 2, 2019 at HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, WI. She was born on February 27, 1947 in Rochester, MN to the late Donald and Frana (Nesler) Kennedy She graduated from Anoka High School in 1965 and went on to obtain her Bachelor’s in Education from the University of Minnesota Duluth in 1969. She met Wally, the love of her life, and married him in 1972 in Duluth. Jan was a beloved teacher at Two Harbors High School until her retirement in 2002. She will most be remembered for her love of teaching, spending time with her grandchildren and family, sewing, and for her service as a member of the United Church of Two Harbors. She loved living by Lake Superior and the beauty of the north shore. Jan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wallace Hockman; her sister, LeAnn Jopke; her grandmother, Hazel Nesler; brother-in-law, Bill Shadduck, and sister-in-law, Amey Kennedy. She is survived by her children, Adam (Kristi) Hockman and Alayne (Chris) Vetter; her grandchildren, Lyric, Harper, Nolan, Bryce, Aiden, and Jayden, all of whom brought her greatest joy to her; brothers, Jon (Brenda) Kennedy and Gene Kennedy, and several nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship will be set up at the Two Harbors High School in memory of Jan. Visitation: 10:00 until the 11:00 a.m. memorial service Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at United Church, 531 3rd Ave.,Two Harbors.
