Obituary of Marjorie H Nelson

Marjorie was born in Duluth, MN on August 1, 1923 in Duluth, MN and lived her whole life in Duluth. A lifelong member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Marjorie was active in the women’s group (WELCA), volunteering in the church office. Marjorie was the first woman elected to the church council and the first woman to be the church council chair. She organized the socials, coffee & conversations and she participated in the annual Gloria Dei fishing experience on Lake Superior for many years to get ready for the annual fish fry Superior Sunday. If there was something happening at Gloria Dei, Marjorie was usually involved. Marjorie went to the University of MN in Minneapolis and graduated with a degree in accounting. She worked in the accounting department for US Steel. Later she got her credentials as a realtor and worked in a local realty agency for a number of years. She formed the Duluth Entertainment League with John Isaacson and Jay Luehre. This business brought Broadway plays and nationally known entertainers to Duluth for performances. Marjorie was a member of both the Zonta Club of Duluth and the AAUW (American Association of University Women). She was preceded in death by her grandparents (Mikkelsen), her parents, Allen & Mary Nelson, and fiancé Edmund Rude. The Funeral for Marjorie Nelson will be Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 1814 51st Ave. East (the corner of Glenwood Avenue & East 51st St.) in Duluth. Memorials to the Gloria Dei Rebuilding Fund, Aftenro Home, or St. Croix Hospice would be appreciated.
