Obituary of James William Lyle
He was born on July 10, 1934 to Sam and Florence Lyle in Duluth. He died from complications of a long and noble struggle from Parkinson’s disease.
Jim attended Munger Elementary School, Washington Junior High School, and graduated from Duluth Central High School class of 1952. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1956 from UMD. He married the love of his life, Carol Makinen on August 12, 1961 after meeting her on a blind date at the Pickwick. After a successful 35 year career with the State of Minnesota and Arrowhead Regional Corrections, he retired.
He and Carol enjoyed traveling. They took many cruises; attended shows and concerts on a regular basis.
He was a WWII enthusiast. He had deep interest and knowledge for the stock market and investments. The sights, sounds and history of Duluth were of great passion to him. Most of all, he loved his family.
James was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert; and grandson, Michael.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol Lyle of Schultz Lake; children, ElizaBeth Lyle, Cloquet, Jay (Mary) Lyle, Shakopee, and Katy (Duane) Buytaert, Cloquet; grandchildren, Matthew, Natalie, Nicholas, Nathan, Sam, Aili, and Will; brother, Tom (Gloria) Lyle, Duluth; sister-in-law, Marcy Lyle; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 12:00 noon until the 1:00 p.m. Memorial Service Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Jarvi Dowd Funeral Home, 925 E 4th Street, Duluth.
