Obituary of Helen Wyona South

She was born in California in 1950. Her family lived there 2 years then moved to Arkansas until 1954. Her mother, brother and sister then moved to Duluth to be with Grandmother. She first came to Duluth Gospel Tabernacle (DGT) in 1954. She was saved at 10 years of age and baptized at 12. After a year of college, Helen became a member of DGT. Helen married Kenneth South on July 31, 1971 in a big wedding at DGT. They moved to Dallas, TX. Their beloved son, Richard "Rick" was born in 1973. Helen worked at a variety of jobs until she and Ken divorced in 1983. She and Rick moved back to Duluth in 1985 to take care of her great-aunt Minnie. Helen also cared for church members, family and friends. She worked for St. Mary's Home Care from 1990-1997. Her mother Amy died in 1995. Helen developed major health concerns and had to quit working. She prayed continually for people and situations. Helen loved ministering to friends and other people, telling them what Jesus had taught and had done for her throughout her life, until her death. She is survived by son, Navy Lieutenant Richard (Caroline) South of Virginia Beach, VA; grandson, Nathaniel; sister, Karen of Cloquet; brother, Lee (Gretchen) Sullivan; many dear friends. Visitation: 2-5 p.m., Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Bell Brothers Jarvi Dowd Funeral Home, 925 E. 4th St., Duluth and 1 hour prior to the service at church. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2018 at Duluth Gospel Tabernacle, 1515 W Superior St, Duluth. Interment will take place at Sunrise Cemetery.
