Obituary of Alfred Gagne
Alfred grew up in Proctor, MN. He attended Duluth Cathedral and Proctor High School graduating in 1950 followed by two years at Duluth Business College. He married the love of his life, Joyce, in 1955 and recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. He served in the US Air Force reserve which was activated during the Korean War. He worked for the DMIR railroad for six years before beginning a life-long career as the letter carrier in Proctor, Minnesota where he could recite the address of everyone on his mail route right up until his death. Alfred was very active in his church (St. Rose) having served as a lector, Eucharistic minister, choir member, council member and the St. Rose Men’s work-crew. He was the treasurer for the St. Rose Men’s club, Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus. He was an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary and a member of MCCL and the Blessed Nuno Society.
After retirement in 1993 he spent the next 24 years enjoying his summers in Proctor and winters in Lake Havasu City, AZ. He enjoyed golfing, cribbage, fishing, making wine, reading, watching football, and traveling.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, Andre and Lumina Gagne; brothers, Rene Gagne, Robert Gagne and sisters, Irene Graham and baby sister, Marie Patricia Mae.
He is survived by his wife Joyce and his four children, Blair (Mavis) Gagne, Budd (Kim) Gagne, Theresa (James) Moore and Barbara (Dana) King. Surviving siblings include Sr. Melanie Gagne OSB, Mary June (Budd) Jaeb, Fr. Ronald Gagne and sister-in-law, Dorothy Gagne as well as special friends, Marty and Janet Pascoe and Ron and Joanne Skansgaard. Alfred has nine grandchildren, Ben Gagne, Josephine (Josh) Eades, Patrick Gagne, Hailey Gagne, Darren Gagne, Andrew Moore, Laura Lee Moore, Jacob (Kelsey) King, and Amanda King and a great-granddaughter on the way. Additionally Alfred has three step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren; Heather and Dan Khali – Nora and Emma; Lee and Kelsey Hodges – Paxton and Bowen and Christine Hodges – Cameron.
Funeral Mass: Saturday, October 13th at St. Rose Catholic Church at 11:00 am preceded by a Rosary at 9:30 and Visitation at 10:00 am. Burial will be at Oneota Cemetery. Memorials will be donated to St. Rose, MCCL and the Blessed Nuno Society.
