Dorothy Wahlstrom

Obituary of Dorothy Wahlstrom

Dorothy was born in Moose Lake on December 4th, 1928 to parents, Walter and Lillian. She was a proud graduate of Denfeld High School. Dorothy married Harold Wahlstrom on July 20,1949 and they spent a wonderful 62 years together before Harold passed away in 2012. She worked at a florist business for many years designing flower arrangements. But what Dorothy really enjoyed was being an entrepreneur, owning many businesses with her husband including Nemadji Pottery, a cemetery basket business, and D &H Ceramics. D & H Ceramics is still open for business 50 years after they got it started and she worked there into her early 80s. Dorothy was very active in the Norton Park United Methodist Church. She had a beautiful voice and sang in the choir. She taught Sunday School for many years and loved working with the children. She also loved creating a beautiful candle table for the annual Wassail Bowl. Another important aspect of her life was getting her hair done and playing Bridge with her friends from the neighborhood. They played bridge every Friday until she physically wasn’t able to anymore. It was hard for her to give it up. She enjoyed dancing on Saturday nights and spending time at their cabin. She instilled a love of camping in her children and grandchildren. She was a fantastic cook and loved cooking for her grandchildren and anyone else that wanted to stop by. Dorothy cared very much for her dog, Elsa. Her puppy gave her comfort and company for many years. What Dorothy loved most was spending time with her family. She was a kind, caring, considerate, giving person who was always willing to help out anyone in need. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; parents, Walter and Lillian; brothers, Russell and Robert; and sister, Betty. Dorothy is survived by daughters, Claudia (Keith) Anderson, Nancy (Mike) Nilsen, Janet (Rawn) Nilsen; brother, Jerry; grandchildren, Brian, Kevin, Amanda, Michael, David, Patricia, Julianne, and Eric; great-grandchildren, Brian Jr., Jack, Matthew, Kendric, Aidan, Nola, Rogan, Emilia, Lillianna and another great-grandson on the way. A special thank you to Sheila and the Hospice staff for the wonderful care they gave Dorothy during her declining health. Visitation will be held from 10 am until the 11 am Funeral Service on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Norton Park United Methodist Church, 436 N 79th Ave W, Duluth.
