Obituary of Ann Judith Carlson
She was born April 10, 1923 to August and Judith Kulberg in Beverly, MA.
Ann’s life was full of adventure. She taught on Martha’s Vineyard, served as a Missionary for the Evangelical Covenant Church in China from 1947-1951 and then was sent on a fact finding trip to Taiwan to understand the mission needs there. As a pastors wife, she was very active in all of the activities in the church. She taught the 4th grade at Stowe School in Duluth from 1970 until her retirement. She was a member of the Swedish Choir, helped make quilts at Willing Workers, and volunteer for St. Mary’s and Lighthouse For The Blind.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Kenneth Swanson; second husband, Arne Carlson; daughters, Gladys Martin and Carolyn Nelson; grandsons, Zachary Foucault and Jonathan Swanson; and brothers, Clarence, Marshall, and Ralph.
Ann will be greatly missed by her children, Loretta (Ken) Carlson, Carol Swanson, Roger (Sue) Swanson, Debbie (Tom) Foucault, Harold (Marleen) Carlson, Lenora (Sam) Grinolds, and Mark Carlson; 20 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Gordon (Carol) and Kenneth (Karen) Kulberg; and sister-in-law, Wendy Kulberg.
Visitation: 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2018 at Salem Covenant Church, 339 59th Ave. West, Duluth. The visitation will continue from 10:00 until the 11:00 a.m. Homecoming Celebration Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the church. Interment will be at Oneota Cemetery.
