Obituary of Harold Ryberg

Harold Ernest Ryberg, 86, of Duluth passed away peacefully Friday, April 6, 2018 at St. Mary’s Essentia Hospital. He was born on September 24, 1931 to Harold Ernest Sr. and Bessie (Martin) Ryberg (Berglund) in Duluth. Harold was a 1949 graduate of Denfeld High School and served in the Army National Guard for nine years. After school he joined the International Union of Operating Engineers-Local 49, then worked for U.S. Steel Duluth Works, retiring after 30 years of service. He married the love of his life, Betty Piertz on December 26, 1953 in Duluth. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling. Harold most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Darlyne A. Struble of Grand Rapids, MN; and brother, Fredric J. Ryberg of Duluth. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 64 years, Betty Ryberg of Duluth; children, David Ryberg of Duluth, Barbara (Tim) Kolodge of Canosia, Nancy (Bruce) OBrien of Duluth, Jeffrey (Lee Ann) Ryberg of Gnesen Twp., and Timothy (Dottie Bisted) Ryberg of Duluth; grandchildren, Shiela (Robert) Bushey, Nicholas (Brenna) Walters, Joshua (Tiffany) Walters, Daniel OBrien, Laura (Mark) Jeranek, Stephanie (Tyler) Gemuenden, Joseph OBrien, Shayne Ryberg, Shelby Ryberg, and Emily (Dylan Beyer) Kolodge; 18 great grandchildren; and two half brothers, Kenneth (Roxanne) Ryberg of Coon Rapids and Paul Ryberg of Superior, WI. Visitation: 10:00 until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Bell Brothers Funeral Home, 601 N 56th Ave. West, Duluth. Interment will be in Bethany Cemetery at a later date.
