Obituary of Patricia Alice Schmauss
Pat was a 1953 graduate of Denfeld High School. After graduating she went to UMD as a physical education student for two years. She later went on to be one of Duluth’s first dental assistants, working for Dr. Pfieffer and Dr. Miller. Pat married Richard Schmauss in December of 1961 and together they ran Klean Kar Service, a very successful automotive detailing business in West Duluth. Pat also started a business of her own doing custom upholstery work for boats and automobiles.
She loved spending time tending to her gardens, raising her poodles, and fostering many cats. Pat and Dick also spent a lot of time fishing and touring around the countryside on their motorcycles. Pat enjoyed numerous trips to Germany with Dick over the years.
The family would like to thank Pat’s nephew, Charlie (Susie) Nelson, for being such a fierce, vocal advocate for Pat and for all the love, support, dinner outings, cribbage games and advice that he gave to her through the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick”; and sister, Beverly Downs.
Pat will be greatly missed by her sister, Kathleen (Don) Roach of Duluth; brother-in-law, John Downs, of Duluth; eleven nieces and nephews; and many great-nephews and nieces.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the North Shore Estates staff for the excellent, loving care Pat received over the past several years.
Visitation: 10:00 until the 11:00 AM Funeral Service Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Bell Brothers Funeral Home, 601 N 56th Ave. West, Duluth. Interment will be in Oneota Cemetery.
