Obituary of Donna Lundgren

Donna Sue Lundgren “Susie”, 69, of Duluth went home to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by family and in her daughter’s arms, after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, March 5, 2018. Donna was born December 1, 1948 to Richard and Jo Anne Wegen in Fall Lake Township, which is part of Winton, Minnesota. Donna was raised in Duluth where she was a member of the Duluth Central High School graduating class of 1966. Following high school, Donna joined the Air National Guard and was a member of the 148th Fighter Wing, stationed in Duluth. Donna served our country for three years and was honorably discharged in May of 1977. On May 26, 1976, Donna was united in marriage to John Lundgren Sr. in Duluth. Donna and John raised seven children together. In 1983, Donna started her home- based business Secretary on Call, which later became Barcodes Plus, which is celebrating its 35th year in business and is still family owned and operated. Donna left a positive and loving impression on everyone she met. Donna will be remembered for her beautiful quilt work, her quick wit, her ability to make others smile, her beautiful gardens and her love of knitting. Donna was rarely seen without her knitting needles in hand or nearby. Donna was proud of her Christian faith and desired to grow closer to God daily. Though her time at Mount Royal Pines III assisted living and Solvay Hospice House were short, she touched many hearts in her last days. Donna is survived by her husband of nearly 42 years, John Sr.; children, Karen (Bruce) Smith of Isanti, MN, George (Tina) Olson of Proctor, Patrick (Rhonda) Olson of Duluth, Brian (Laurie) Olson of Superior, Jackie (Ryan) Sather of Duluth, John Jr. (Jessica) Lundgren of Superior, and Andrew (Kristi) Lundgren of Cottage Grove, MN. Donna is also survived by her mother, Jo Anne Wegen of Duluth; siblings, George (Jean) Wegen, Janny (John) Loop, Peggy (Steve) Johnson, Keely Wegen and Kerrie (Tim) Blattner. Donna was an amazing grandma to 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Her dad, Richard and one brother, Donald, precede Donna in death. We would like to thank the Essentia Health Oncology & Hematology Staff, as well as the amazing Hospice team, Solvay Hospice house and Mount Royal Pines III for their outstanding care. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the Solvay Hospice House in Donna’s honor. Donations can be sent to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, PO Box 98018 Washington, DC 20090-8018 or Solvay Hospice House, 801 Baylis Street Duluth, MN 55811. Visitation from 5pm-7pm Thursday, March 15th at Duluth Gospel Tabernacle (1515 W. Superior Street, Duluth). The visitation will continue from 10am until the 11am funeral service Friday, March 16th at the church.
